Hello - my name is Scott McDonald, I live in Sydney, Australia and after years of dreaming I've decided to take the plunge and make a trip to India. The travel bug has also bit my friend Dean and after two frantic weeks of organization (visas, vaccinations and travel purchases) the time has come!
Our flight is the 11:30 am Singapore Airlines from Sydney. The 14 hour flight is broken into two legs with a one hour stopover in Singapore. During the flight I was able to catch up on several movies I had missed previously, such as "300", a bloody, historical epic based on the war between the Spartans and Persians.
We land in Delhi at about 9:00 pm local time. Driving from the airport we get our first taste of India - heat, humidity, chaotic traffic and cows (and lots of dogs) wandering aimlessly. There are people everywhere - vendors, touts, rickshaw drivers and crowds just milling around by the side of the road.
For our first night we have booked the Star Paradise Hotel in the Parharganj district - a rabbit's warren of markets, cheap hotels and cow-dung just north of Connaught Place - the commercial center of Delhi. Upon approach there's not much to see as there's little street lighting, and to be honest, it seems quite scary. But anyway, we've made it in one piece, our rooms are ready, and after unpacking we both crash for the night.
Tomorrow we attack Delhi!
